Our Community of Support
For 182 years, C.O. Bigelow has always been a place of safety and community of support. Historically, our soda fountain has welcomed revolutionaries that helped pave the way for the great movements of the United States, including the Civil Rights movement - but the injustices that transpired in Minneapolis last week remind us that we, as a society, still have a long way to go... As healthcare providers, we have always tried to stay neutral and welcome social and political debate, but today is an exception. We have always believed in the tenet, “Do more, say less," but we know now is not the time for silence. Over the past few days, our team has felt immense pain and outrage for the murder of George Floyd and those before him. While we grieved, we took a long, hard look at what we could do to help, and wanted to share what C.O. Bigelow is doing to help support the black community: 1. In honor of our black employees, customers, and patients, we have donated 100% of yesterday’s retail sales to the Equal Justice Initiative, which strives to end racial inequality, excessive punishment, mass incarceration, and to protect basic human rights for the most vulnerable people in American society. 2. In an effort not to distract from the important conversations taking place on social media right now, we have chosen to pause our branded content in the meantime. 3. We encourage all of you to donate to Equal Justice Initiative, Color of Change, Black Visions Collective, American Civil Liberties Union, or any other organization that is helping the empowerment of black people everywhere. We acknowledge the pain and suffering of the black community and condemn the injustices that they have to live with every day. We want to let them know that their voices do not fall on deaf ears. We are listening and we are here to help fight for their human rights, and we need your help. #BlackLivesMatter
