Support Black-Owned Businesses
WHAT WE STAND FOR C.O. Bigelow celebrates diversity, inclusion, and equality. We have always been a place where people of all races and ethnic backgrounds could feel safe, taken care of, and treated like family. Our family-owned business lies in the melting pot of NYC, steps away from Washington Square Park — one of the most electric gathering places for people of all races, ethnicities, and socioeconomic backgrounds in NYC. As a safe haven, we condemn all hate speech and strive to keep NYC kind and to promote positive change in our society.
WHAT WE’RE DOING We continue to collaborate and feature black creators in our community on our social platforms and in our marketing. Our beauty team is committed to continuing their education on makeup and hair care for all skin tones and hair types to best serve our diverse community. We continue to have conversations with our team about ways we can be involved in our own local communities. We acknowledge that our work is still not done, and our team continues to share resources and educate ourselves about what we can do to help the black community in an effort to combat generations of systemic oppression.
SUPPORT BLACK-OWNED BEAUTY For the entire month of June, when you support our black-owned brands — Briogeo, BeautyStat, Rose Ingleton MD, and UnSun Cosmetics — we’re donating 20% of all purchases to EJI.org. The Equal Justice Initiative is committed to ending mass incarceration and excessive punishment in the US, challenging racial and economic injustice, and protecting basic human rights for the most vulnerable people in our society.
SUPPORT LOCAL BLACK-OWNED BUSINESSES Support your local black-owned businesses to ensure the success and proliferation of BIPOC business. The Village Alliance gathered a list of black-owned businesses in Lower Manhattan to support now and always, including local neighborhood spots like Berber Street Food, Urban Vegan Kitchen, Mikey Likes It Ice Cream, Sweet Chick, Extra Virgin, New York Biltong, Madame Matovu Vintage, and Meskerem Ethiopian Cuisine. You can view the full list in their Black History Month blog post, which also pays homage to African American history in Greenwich Village.
